CSV File Format

The file format CSV stands for “Comma-separated Values”, more rarely for “Character-separated Values”. A CSV file is used to store or exchange simply structured text data. With the help of a CSV file, tables or list entries can be represented in lists of different lengths. Nested and thus more complicated data structures can be saved using additional rules or chained CSV files. However, other formats are more suitable for saving in a single file, such as JSON, XML or EDIFACT.
