TM – Translation Memory

A Translation Memory is a database in which existing translations are stored and made available for reuse. Successful translations are processed after release by the TM. Thus, as the number of translations increases, so does the number of data records in the translation memory. In the long term, this leads to a reduction in translation costs, as known translations are automatically translated by the system.
Individual translation memories are always bilingual and contain a language pair (e.g. German and English). The number of translation memories increases with the number of target languages. It is therefore advisable to choose a translation language that serves as a so-called “pivot language”.
